A club was founded within 1918 as Highfield and Camden Tanneries Recreation Club. It became members of the Lancashire Combination in the same season, winning a cup. When Runcorn F.C., it were founder members of the Cheshire County League in 1919, and were its 1st champions. It won a league & League Cup double in 1937.

It were founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1969 and won the Cheshire Senior Ventral suction cup within 1973. A pinnacle of the club's history was a Alliance Premier League (now a Football Conference) title profits of 1982, but it were denied promotion to the Football League because they did non benefit plenty votes from either league members.
